What could be better than enjoying some of Ireland’s finest whiskeys from the comfort of your own home? And these aren’t just any Irish whiskeys either - these are Athrú exclusives and limited-edition bottlings.
We began hosting these events during one of the many lockdowns as a way to lift spirits - and since then the spirited adventure has continued, with lovers of premium Irish whiskey intrigued to discover more about our whiskey, which is made at our Lough Gill Distillery, situated against the dramatic backdrop of Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way.
Athrú Single Cask Virtual Tasting and Distillery Tour
On January 20th we’ll be hosting an online tasting and virtual distillery tour evening, where you can join Lough Gill’s head distiller, Ollie Alcorn, for a special evening of single cask whiskey and stories.
This event gives a rare insight into the finest whiskey we have in our bonded warehouse - and gives you the chance to taste some, too.
Included in the tasting pack are three of our single cask bottlings - our 6 year old Oloroso, our 16 year old PX and last but not least, our 16 year old Tokaji. Each of these is a limited edition whiskey with just a small number available - which makes this tasting experience all the more special.
6 year old Oloroso: The perfect whiskey to enjoy around Christmastime, our 6 year old Oloroso is jam packed full of red fruit flavours and spices. Just 295 bottles of this whiskey were made, and it’s been bottled at cask strength (58%), so it certainly packs a punch.
16 year old PX: With its sticky fruit flavours, this whiskey is pure indulgence. Just 280 bottles were made, using whiskey drawn from a single ex Pedro Ximenez sweet sherry barrel.
16 year old Tokaji: The most exclusive of our cask reserve bottlings, just 250 bottles of this whiskey was made. Tokaji is a Hungarian sweet wine, and this whiskey takes on many of the barrel’s characteristics. The result is a sweet, fragrant whiskey, bursting with citrus and apricot notes and just a hint of honey.
In addition to our three single cask bottlings, we also have another treat in store - our newest Small Batch Release. You’ll be amongst some of the first to try this exclusive limited edition whiskey, which has been created using three unique casks of 6-year-old Oloroso, 6-year-old Bourbon and 17-year-old Madeira.
It’s not just the whiskey you’ll enjoy - the evening is hosted by our very own Head Distiller Ollie Alcorn, who’ll offer an access-all-areas virtual tour, and share some whiskey secrets along the way. Fantastic whiskey without even having to leave the sofa?
