Lough Gill Distillery

Athrú home of

Lough Gill Distillery is situated in a unique location in Co.Sligo, West of Ireland. An area surrounded in folklore and mythology, it’s also immersed in the history of Irish whiskey - even the word whiskey has gaelic roots, deriving from the term uisce beatha, meaning ‘water of life’. The first record of Irish whiskey dates back to 1405, around 90 years before it was first recorded in Scotland.

Irish single malts are now regarded as some of the finest single malts in the world, and the factors that define Irish whiskey, such as a rich history and reputation, a unique production process and water and climate specific to the individual distillery can be found in abundance at Lough Gill Distillery, the home of Athrú single malt whiskey.

The distillery is capable of producing over one million litres of alcohol per annum, equating to about three million bottles of the finest quality, triple distilled single malt whiskey. Using our three specially designed copper pot stills, we are dedicated to the production of triple distilled single malt whiskey in the Irish tradition.

Our process

Our triple distilled single malt whiskey is made from 100% malted barley. Our water comes from a well onsite that is filtered down through the layers of rock from Benbulben mountain and the surrounding area, granting a flavour unique to the West Coast of Ireland. It is matured onsite in the finest bourbon casks.
