Hazelwood Gardens in Bloom

Hydrangea blooming at Hazelwood House

After a long spell of wet and unsettled weather in July and early August there is a rumour of sunshine on the horizon. This is great news for the gardens at Hazelwood as it will encourage the beaten down plants to produce new blooms and introduce some colour to the grounds.

The restoration of the estate grounds continues as previously overgrown areas of the gardens are being cleared and prepared for new plantings. We are now working on areas that are in close proximity to the future developments for Hazelwood Demesne

By planning ahead we can make sure the grounds will be bursting with colour when we  open to the public in future years and make sure the newly developed areas blend with the existing aged surroundings.

With Autumn around the corner, we are coming into a great time of year for expanding our plant stock. At this time nature slows the growth and sap moment in plants allowing gardeners to safely lift and divide many plants.

These can be potted up so they can mature in containers until they are ready. Many divided plants can also be planted immediately into new or existing beds where they have more room to grow and in time will multiply again.

This is important because plants currently growing in certain areas can be safely removed and then continue to grow, then replanted back to the finished areas towards the end of the project. The plant nursery is going to be busier than ever ensuring the gardens are outstanding and bursting with colour.
